Description

The cottage is well located for tourists traveling around Iceland, just by route 1, which is the main highway around Iceland. The cottage has beds for 4 people and a sleeping loft. It consists of 2 bedrooms, sleeping loft, bathroom with shower, kitchen corner with refrigerator and kitchen equipment for 6 people. A living room with good furniture, radio and television.

There is hot water in the property and outside there is a hot tub, chairs and table.

The view is magnificent, from the house you can see many remarkable places such as Thingeyri, Vatndalshóll, Borgarvirki and Hvítserkur. It is also possible to see all the way to Thristapi which is the location of the last execution in Iceland. Gullsteinn is only 700 meters from the house but that is the location where Icelanders first took up the christian religion.

Perfect place to see the Northern Lights at winters.

The cottage is located 12 km south of the town Blonduos, where you can visit museums, go bird-watching by the river Blanda, walk in Hrutey, a little island located in the river and Blonduos also has a great swimmingpool. Near Blonduos there is a golf course.

Marked hiking trails are in the area there the cottage is located following paths with waterfalls and other interesting places. Just above the cottage we have a little garden with dining table where you can enjoy the good weather in the summer.

Bed linens are an extra ISK 2000 per person.

***The hot tub is closed from November 1st - May 1st***

Very nice house, ease to find. Brand new kitchen, kitchen equipment, furniture . Easy to put on the hot tub. Easy to communicate with the owner. Stream flowing just right under the house. Cosy swimming pool is 10 minutes by car. Super relaxing to be there and it is comfortable for 4-5 grownups and 2kids. We made a day trip to Siglufjörður and Akureyri too. Fully recommended. Kriszta

It?s all about the kitchen; the stove doesn?t function well enough. To boil some water for tea will take a very long time and It?s nearly impossible to fry meat or fish.
The rest of the cottage is also quite worn out and the garbage bin was almost full when we arrived. unfortunately not a very nice place to stay.

Except for the weak fire in the kitchen, the position of the place is nice and dark enough that I had my first aurora experience here!

A lot of space, unfortunately a bit worn out, had to be cleaned on arrival first of all the hot pot and the terrace, good start for tours around and for rides

I have enjoyed the stay in this large, beautiful, clean and cosy cottage.
The owners are very friendly and have given me a lot of useful hints.
This place is a good starting point e.g. for seal watching (route 711).

Very beautiful place, everything is available in the house. Clean at time of arrival.

Need still some work. some doors in the kitchen and a door of a closet need to be fixed.

You hear the noice of the busy street nearby but if you don't mind, than it's a nice place to stay.

Wunderschöne und ruhige Lage obwohl an der Ringstraße gelegen. Hot pot war leider nicht in Betrieb. Haus war nicht ganz sauber, Küche hatte leider nur zwei Kochplatten. Trotzdem haben wir uns sehr wohlgefühlt.

Cosy, cabin in fantastic setting, with only one other cabin, by the waterfall at the other end of the large field. Slightly small for 4 large adults but fine for one night. One son chose to inhabit the spacious loft for the night. There is a road in the distance but the views are still wonderful. We sat and watched the sunset and glimpsed the northern lights here.

This cabin was in a nice area and perfect size for our group of three. There were more beds than we needed so it would have also worked for a larger group. There were a few maintenance issues but they were minor and did not impact our enjoyment of the area.

The cabin provided everything we needed. The location is near the frequented ring road and though it's furnished with all wee needed, we did not fell very cosy there. So the cabin is perfect if you need a place to pass the night an go for day-trips (for this the location is good); if you are looking for the perfect house to spend your days there, maybe you will find a better place.

Beautiful location! Cozy and comfortable and provided the function we needed as we traveled around the Ring Road. Small 2 burner stove with only one burner working if you plan to do some cooking. We worked around it by using the oven for some things. Scenery is lovely!!!

Nice cottage, fitted our needs perfectly. We loved the hot pot and enjoyed the big TV on a rainy day. Kitchen could be better equipped, but was ok.

This is a nicely situated property, convenient for the ring road and with great views across the countryside. The property is comfortable and reasonably well equipped. We had some difficulty in getting bed linen sorted out (I had pre-booked this but had to make 3 trips to the farm where the keys are kept to sort it out). The property could also do with a bit of general maintenance....some things are good (TV for example) but others a little older (eg shower). Leaving some simple instructions for guests would also be helpful....local information and details on how to use the hot tub for example. The waterfalls in the gorge next to the site are well worth a visit (a short walk from the property). The owner dealt with enquiries by email reasonably quickly during the booking process.

We stayed here for two nights on our two-week "lap" around Iceland. It is very conveniently located, and there is plenty to do in the vicinity. For us, the hot tub was much appreciated. Initially there was an omission to provide the linen we had booked, but this was quickly resolved after a phone call to the managers.

Great place in a convenient location right off the ring road that made a good halfway stopping point when driving from the north to Reykjavik. Lots of windows with views in every direction. Took a walk behind the property, and it was beautiful.

We had a very nice stay at Stóra Giljá 2, lovely surroundings, extremely comfortable to reach (just next to ringroad), spacy and warm inside. The hot pot is great and we had all facilities we needed.

Stora Gilja 2 Is een ruim huis met redelijke voorzieningen. Het ligt op een zeer rustige locatie. De tub is een prima voorziening bij het huis.

beautiful nature around, opens the mountains, rivers, small waterfall, meadow view. house is cozy, inside we found everything comfortable stay for 6 people. hot pot was perfect after a long trip.

The view is magnificent! We had a comfortable stay here. The hottub and the grill is great, the beds are comfortable. The owner is extremely friendly. Although he doesn't speak much English, he showed us how to use the hottub, etc. and we communicated with no problem.
