General Questions

How does the service work?

The website is designed to assist property owners rent out their vacation properties when they are not using them. You simply list your property on our website, mark off the days that are already booked or that you want to reserve for you and your family. Then we assist you in renting out all the free days.



How much does it cost to list my property with Bungalo?

It costs you nothing. We get paid when you get paid. Bungalo takes a 15%+GST commission once a reservation is booked through our system. There are no listing or annual fees, and no surprises.



A typical breakdown for a $1500.00 weekly rate with applicable tax would look like this:
Guest: pays $1500.00 to Bungalo
Bungalo takes 15% matching fee + applicable taxes on matching fee:
0.15 x $1500.00 = $225.00
Nova Scotia applicable sales tax on matching fee: 0.15 x $225.00 = $33.75
Cottage Owner: takes home approximately $1241.25


When do I get paid?

We will transfer the rental fee minus our commission directly into your account, at the beginning of the month following when the tenant stayed in your property.



What is the cancellation policy and how does it work?

Cancellation must be reported to Bungalo via e-mail or other verifiable means. If a reservation is cancelled 30 days or more, prior to the scheduled arrival date, 80% of the rental price will be repaid. If a reservation is cancelled 29 – 8 days prior to the arrival date, 20% of the rental price will be repaid. If a reservation is cancelled less than 7 days prior to the scheduled arrival date, no refund will be made. In case of no shows or early check outs, no refund will be made.



How will I know when I get a booking?

As soon as your property is booked you and the tenant will receive a confirmation email, where you will find all the information about the booking. You can then contact the tenant to inform them about where they can pick up the keys and give them further information about the property.



Do I have to confirm each booking?

No, the system is a real-time booking system, that means that if a certain day is available the tenant can book it immediately without you having to confirm it. Therefore it is very important that you reserve all the days that are not available well in advance.



How much notice will I have for each booking?

A booking must be made with at least 48 hours in advance, so you will never receive a booking the same day as the tenant is arriving.



Can my property be listed on other websites?

Yes, we have no problem with you listing your property on other websites, just make sure you update the calendar on the Bungalo website if you get bookings from other websites. Also note that we can list your property free of charge with our trusted partners including TripAdvisor, Flipkey to help increase bookings.



What if I have different rates for the peak and off-peak seasons?

If you have different rates for the summer and winter season, you can include those different rates within your profile. The system will automatically charge the guest and pay you the right rates.



What if I’m already booked for the summer season?

We make your property available all-year round. So if you have availability in the shoulder and off-peak seasons, we can help you increase reservations for those periods. Just make sure you keep your calendar updated so guests know when you have availability.



What if I only rent out my property during the summer?

No problem, you can change the calendar to make your property available only when you want. Since most bookings for the summer are confirmed in the winter, we recommend you to have your listing ready so that guests can book a long time in advance.



Can people book for later in the year or next season?

The calendar goes two years out, so guests can book a long time in advance. Since many international travellers make plans far in advance, this helps them plan their vacation.



What do I do if I get an double—booking?

A double-booking happens when a guest books your property on bungalo.com and the calendar has not been maintained. You can avoid this by making sure that your calendar is always up to date, even with bookings you get outside of bungalo.com.



Can I reserve dates in the calendar for family and friends?

Yes, you have full control over what days you rent out and you can always go into the system and reserve dates for yourself.



Where do the tenants pick up the keys?

It is the owner’s responsibility to make arrangements to get the keys to the tenant. It is an option for owners to have someone located close to the property with the keys or to have a number-coded lock at the property so they only have to give the number code through the phone.



How do I qualify to list my property on bungalo.com?

We specialize in listing unique properties that will offer guests a memorable experience. We approve properties that are well-maintained, have a separate entrance, and that can provide that unique experience, like being close to nature or near cultural hubs. You can list your property here for immediate approval.



Do I need to have a license to rent out my property?

Although not required, we highly recommend that you have a registered licence to ensure credibility for yourself as a business owner and for your guests. For help to register your business, please contact us



What insurance do I need to rent out my property?

Insurance is not required, but we highly recommend that you have insurance to cover any liability as a business owner, and any damage caused by your guests.



What is your damage policy?

Bungalo is not responsible for damage caused by the tenant during their stay nor any damage they suffer during the time of rent. The guests are responsible for any damage caused and must immediately notify the owner if damage occurs. If something takes place that leads to a depreciation of the property´s usefulness or value, the tenant has to notify the owner immediately. Bungalo.com can act as an intermediary to support you in retrieving the cost caused by damage by guests, upon your request. Bungalo can in some cases facilitate the withdrawl from the tentant’s credit card to cover the cost of repair, though never a higher amount than the cost of renting the property.



How can a tenant leave a star rating and a review?

Only tenants that have rented a property through the Bungalo website can leave a review of the property and thereby ensure that only real tenants can comment. As soon as their stay in the property has ended they receive an email from Bungalo where they can leave a rating and a review of the property. Bungalo has to approve all reviews before they appear on the website.
