ABOUT SKAGASTROND, NORTH WEST ICELAND
Skagastrond is a small village in a beautiful peaceful area. From the Cottage/Cabin is a view over the Village, the Sea and the Mountains.
Take a walk and enjoy the clean air, the peace and quiet surroundings. The nature is on your doorstep.
You can also walk to the sea shore, watch seals and listen to the birds or take a walk on the cliff/rock Spakonufellshofdi behind the cottage and have a beautiful view over the bay Hunafloi, or you can walk to the top of the Mountain Spakonufellsborg. The view is amazing. A marked trail runs to the top of the mountain from the farm Brandaskarð. Or you can walk around the mountain. Spakonufell is one of the most impressive mountain in this area. It is 646 m high. The name of the mountain derives from Thordis the prophetess who lived on a farm of the same name as the mountain, situated by its roots in the 10th century. She was the first person to settle in Skagastrond.
Selavikurtangi is about 40 km north of Skagastrond at Kaldranavik. Just out from the shore at a distance of about 40 - 50 m you can see seals at as they lie sprawled on the reefs and gaze with curiosity into the eyes of the tourists. They can be very numerous.
