ABOUT SKAGASTROND, NORTH WEST ICELAND
Skagastrond is a small village in a beautiful peaceful area. From the Cottage is a view over the Village, to the Sea and the Mountains.
Take a walk and enjoy the clean air, the peace and quiet surroundings. The nature is on your doorstep.
You can also walk to the sea shore, watch seals and listen to the birds or take a walk on the cliff/rock Spakonufellshofdi behind the cottage and have a beautiful view over the bay Hunafloi, or you can walk to the top of the Mountain Spakonufellsborg. The view is amazing. A marked trail runs to the top of the mountain from the farm Brandaskarð. Or you can walk around the mountain. Spakonufell is one of the most impressive mountain in this area. It is 646 m high. The name of the mountain derives from Thordis the prophetess who lived on a farm of the same name as the mountain, situated by its roots in the 10th century. She was the first person to settle in Skagastrond.
Selavikurtangi is about 40 km north of Skagastrond at Kaldranavik. Just out from the shore at a distance of about 40 - 50 m you can see seals at as they lie sprawled on the reefs and gaze with curiosity into the eyes of the tourists. They can be very numerous.

HOW TO GET HERE
With car all the way.
There is a bus every day from the Capital Reykjavik to Skagastrond, and from Akureyri to Skagastrond. Need to order seat at www.straeto.is From Skagastrond you can go to other Villages in the North or to the beautiful town Akureyri. It is best to rent a car to be able to travel around. If you go by bus to Akureyri you have to stay over night. Easy to find the route on Google map. If you are travelling in Iceland at wintertime, it is better to rent 4WD.

Lovely and well-equipped cottage and welcoming host. Good location. Shower doors need to be fixed. Would not hesitate to stay there again.

We could not find the property per given directions. Repeated attemps to call and email the owner went unanswered until two days after we left the country.

Although the weather was not great, we had a lovely 2 night stay at the cottage in August 2016. Gunnar greeted us warmly and tells a lot about the area. The kitchen is very well equipped and on the terrace is a new Weber grill.
When you are there you should also definitely visit the cosy swimming pool, only a few feet away. The coffee is free and tasty.

First impression of the cottage was positive. Not totally overwhelming but still nice & cosy. Unfortunately we had to learn that all windows are leaking so we had a hard time during the storm getting the cabin warm. All heaters were on maximum and too hot to touch. But because of the wind coming into the hut it was not really warm. Even water got in. Plus, the hut was shaking with every blow. From the guestbook entries of other guests we assume that the owners do not check if the cabin is clean after people have lived there. Some people had to clean up other people?s mess which is not right. We have the feeling that the owners minimize their efforts extremely by behaving like that but still make good money.

We cannot recommend staying here ? especially when the weather is rough which is not that unusual for Iceland. We have stayed in many accommodations here (all over Iceland) and are most disappointed by that one.

We stayed 1 night at this cabin on the way North and the heavy snowstorm added to the cosiness of the place. We can recommend this cottage.

Lovely cabbin and it was much bigger than I expected. The view is great. Cabbin is clean and nice. I highly recommended it. And a really good price. Good friendly owners, even if they were a little bit hard to reach.

Nice cottage next to Skagaströnd. Fully equipped and plus. The village is a bit aslept but the surroundings are really interesting with bird breeding places to the north and a really nice coast line with awesome rock formations. Be aware, birds don't like their nests to be approached at all. Great experience.

It has everything but a bit small. One bedroom and more place to sleep at the attic (even up to 4) but rest of space is not sufficient for more. There were three of us and it was not space left when we brought in the luggage.

Frábærlega vel innréttaður, kosý kofi. Allt til staðar sem á þurfti að halda fyrir 5 manns, og meira til.
