Himnaríki (e. Heaven)

The name of the cabin is Himnaríki or Heaven in english.
The heavenly view from the cabin over the Þjórsá river and the volcano Hekla is spectacular!

The amazing view reaches over the beautiful landscape and the location is peaceful with a few other summerhouses around and a small country road that is mostly used by the local farmers.

The floorspace of the cabin is 38 m2 plus a sleeping loft with three 80x200 beds. Downstairs there is one bedroom with a queen size double bed. There is a well equipped kitchen, a living room and a bathroom with a shower. All bedding and towels are included.

Fossnes farm (GPS: N64 04.385 W 020 06 634 is 1.5 km from the cabin. There it is possible to use a hot tub as well as getting information on any hiking trails or buy fishing licences to fish in the river Þverá.

Þjórsárdalur valley is only a 20 minute drive away, there you can enjoy both beautiful nature and rich history.
To name a few locations are the waterfalls Háifoss and Hjálparfoss, and the old ruins of the Viking farm Stöng that was deserted during the Hekla Volcano eruption in the year 1142.

Landmannalaugar Hot springs and Veiðivötn (fishing river) are also within a driving distance from the Sprengisandur road (nr. F26).
The closest village is Árnes, it's about 7 minute drive away.
There is a mini-market and a swimming pool.

Flúðir is a larger village, about 25 minutes away that has a supermarket, golf course, wine store, swimming pool and the Secret Lagoon.

Distance from Reykjavík to Heaven is 105 km. Start with road nr. 1 to south of Iceland, go 14 km passed Selfoss (town) and turn right on road nr. 30 (Skeiða- og Hrunamannavegur). After 18 km turn right on road nr. 32 (Þjórsárdalsvegur) and drive further 16 km until you turn left on road 325 (Gnúpverjavegur). There is 800 meters up to the Fossnes farm where you pick up the keys.

This is the second time we stay in Himnaríki and we loved it as much this time as the first one, even more. We were two at the beginning of our stay, then we became four some days later, then two again and then three. It was very suitable all the time. The beds are fairly good. We heated the cottage when it became cold and it worked very well, the shower works perfectly, everything does. The only problem we had is not finding a freezer, I expected to find a freezing section in the small refrigerator but it had none, we needed it for our dog´s food, but we managed. We will be back, no doubt about that. The location is so beautiful and the view is magnificient. I recommend a railway for support on the outside steps, those coming from outside the front door. Thank you Sigrún for this marvelous place.

The cabine was really nice with all you need for your travelling. The location was nice, with overview of the landscape. It was a good starting point for visiting the Hekla region. We can recommend!

We arrived on Friday afternoon. We drove passed the last road that took us to the cottage, its hard to notice the first time one goes there, even when walking. We loved the cottage immediately as we saw it, not to mention the majestic view of Hekla and all the other mountains, the river and the whole landscape. Seeing some sheep roaming around was lovely. The cottage is very cute, small but has everything one needs for a short stay, we stayed 3 nights. The double bed was very comfortable as were the chairs and sofa. The beds upstairs I understand from my adult daughter, were not very comfortable. The bed is 90 cm but the mattress is 80 cm and the mattresses were rather soft. The only thing we missed was salt and kitchen towels. We also missed the typical "gestabók" or guest book which are often fun to read. I guess that is now done only electronically, I prefer the tradition. Everything worked fine, all appliances, shower, lights, etc. The temperature was stable, my husband and I experienced a bit of cold during the day that was rainy and foggy, not though during the night, but my daughter and son in law did not experience any cold at all. It would be great to have a "markissu" over the porch, or some kind of shelter, to protect the table and chairs from the rain and be able to use them. Our dog loved the place. It was nice to walk around in the area. Everything was clean and tidy, obviously the owners take good care of the cottage and of everything in it. We would love to stay there again and plan to come back.

Wir waren leider nicht, wie geplant, im Heaven, sondern in einer großzügigen Wohnung im Haupthaus von Sigrun untergebracht. Leider war im Heaven kein Wasser verfügbar. Aber wir waren auch mit der Wohnung sehr zufrieden! Es hat ein schönes Bad und eine gut eingerichtete Küche mit Sitzplatz. Einzig ein gemütliches Sofa hat uns gefehlt. Der Kontakt zu Sigrun war total nett!

Hallo,
nach zwei Sommern auf dieser Insel waren wir Anfang Januar 2020 nun auch im Winter mal da und wohnten im Heaven mit vier Personen. Wer die Ruhe und Abgeschiedenheit und das Island Flair sucht und genießen kann, ist hier genau richtig. Keine Nachbarn, selten mal ein Auto zu sehen und ein traumhafter Panoramablick über ein Flußtal über dem der Hekla thront.
Tägliche Wetterwechsel sind typisch für Island und alle Tourenplanungen sollten dem folgen - auch im Winter!
Wir haben vom Blizzard bis zum strahlenden Sonnenschein alles erlebt und das Heaven als gemütliche Oase im Sturm erlebt. Das Heaven ist sehr vollständig eingerichtet, selbst die kleinsten Utensilien sind vorhanden - nur ein Fön hat unseren Damen gefehlt - den wir von Sigrun sicher auch bekommen hätten. Dafür hat sie uns mit einer Wäscheleine ausgeholfen, als die Tür des Jeep Renegade frostbedingt nicht mehr schließen wollte....

Wir können das Heaven uneingeschränkt empfehlen - vier Personen finden gut ausreichend Platz. Die Einrichtung ist rustikal gemütlich, Bauhaus - Stil suchen wir in Island ohnehin nicht.

Island im Winter- auch eine Reise wert. Die Zimmermann's

We loved this rustic, cozy and comfortable cabin. The views were outstanding and we had a wonderful evening there as a family. We only wished that we had stayed for several nights to really settle into the space and location. Close to the Golden Circle attractions and the Secret Lagoon at Fludir, as well as beautiful Gaijin, Hjalparfoss, and Stong.

Cozy hut with a view
Heaven is a cozy place in a beautiful location. The view is fantastic, the house is well heated. It is difficult to find the road that leads to it. I would recommend a sign. The e-mail does not work so I never got an answer to my questions there. Therefore just 4 stars. But phone worked when we asked for instruction to get there the last few meters. The nature around is great and you get to many nice places from here. Sleeping accomodations are ok though the beds in the loft are very narrow. And we lacked an oven which we finally found upstairs the next day. All over I recommend the stay.

Very cosy cottage equipped with everything you need. Perfect location to explore south-central region and even not too far from the highlands. The views are heavenly so the name fits perfectly. Great view over Þjorsádalur with Eyjafallajökull and Hekla as backgound.

It was the best stay! We felt so relaxed and loved the view. Right when we arrived my husband said we should have booked it for the full week instead of 1 night. The stars were amazing with no light pollution. Very clean. We loved every minute we stayed here.

"Himnariki" was our holiday cottage for two weeks. The house is clean and very cosy, in one word: phantastic!
And thanks a lot to Sigrun for her warm hospitality.
Is Fossnes offside? - Definitely no!
You can visit a lot of Icelandic highlights, i.e. from "into the glacier", over Kerkfjöll, Landmannalaugar, Pingvellir, Jökullsarlon...
Not to forget: Fludir with Secret Lagoon, which is a "must".

Wir haben nicht das Häuschen Heaven bewohnt, sondern das Haupthaus, da im Heaven die Wasserleitung zugefroren war. Wir haben eine sehr herzliche Gastgeberin erlebt, süß eingerichtete, gemütliche und saubere Zimmer. Die Küche ist sehr geräumig und gut ausgestattet. Ein rundum gelungener Aufenthalt und eine echte Empfehlung!

Awesome place to stay. Absolutely beautiful and Sigrun was a great host. Heaven was closed, but we were put up in an awesome apartment that had everything we needed. Will definitely come back if ever in iceland again.

Fantastic place and view in the middle of a valley with a river, very quite and safe.
The cabin is nice, and well heated. The area for the kitchen is a little bit small, but you will probably need to use it only for breakfast as the best is see nice place around Iceland.
The owner is really nice, she unfortunately had a big issue with the water pipeline as the extreme cold freeze them. She did all her best to find an adequate solution.

Himnariki is a very cosy cottage offering a breathtaking view over the Thjorsa river valley towards Mt. Hekla. Ideally located for day-trips to "Golden Circle" attractions like Gulfoss or Geysir. Stöng is nearby too. Selfoss is 50km away. You won't necessarily need a car with 4x4 drive unless you want to explore Landsmannalaugar via F208/F224 as we did. Last but not least: during 2 nights we could observe polar lights directly overhead.

It was great to stay in Heaven, little house but very nice and warm and comfortable.
And the view was so stunning...it was so breathtaking to wake up to such a wonderful landscape. We couldnt have wished for better.

We had such a pleasent stay in Heaven enjoying the beautiful view over Þjórsárdalur and Hekla. The house is really cozy and very well equiped. The big bedroom has a comfortable bed and the two beds under the rooftop are perfectly fine. But the steep stairs might not suite everybody. We often had breakfast/ dinner outside on the terasse and the gas grill worked well. The area is just fantastic to explore with Hjálparfoss, Gjáinn and Háifoss plus Stöng so near by. Thanks for a very wonderful weekend!
