Description

About the cottage
The cottage has 2 bedrooms for two persons each (one with double bed and one with 2 single beds). There is also the possibility to add mattress for 1 child under 12. Keys are picked up at the guesthouse (the white one with the blue door (photo)). Close to the guesthouse is a small pond with a rowing boat which guests in the cottage can use as well.

Hagi was mentioned in the old Icelandic Sagas (Ljósvetningasaga) and is on the east side of Laxá, a famous salmon fishing river. On the east of Hagi is a small pond. Both the river Laxá and the several small streams to the north and east of Hagi are rich in bird life which makes it a perfect location for bird watchers.

What to do
When staying at Hagi, you are close too some of the most natural wonders Iceland has to offer. A mere 30 minutes away there is Lake Myvatn, a popular tourist destination for years. Rich in bird life and no shortages of sights. A little further east you can go visit the Myvatn Nature Baths. Opened on the 30th of June 2004, Myvatn Naturebaths offers something for everyone. Despite its northerly location, the region enjoys a temperate climate, and the long summer days when darkness never comes can be surprisingly warm. As summer merges into autumn, the landscape becomes a panoramic patchwork dotted with shades of gold and brown, while winter brings its own tapestry of snow, sparkling frosts, and frequent opportunities to enjoy the unforgettable splendour of the Northern Lights.

A designated nature reserve, Myvatn is an area of fragile beauty where tourist services have been developed in such a way as to cause as little disruption as possible to what is a unique and highly delicate ecosystem.

Drawing on a centuries-old tradition, the tastefully designed complex offers bathers a completely natural experience that begins with a relaxing dip amidst clouds of steam rising up from a fissure deep in the Earth´s surface, and ends with a luxurious swim in a pool of geothermal water drawn from depths of up to 2.500 metres.

And that's not all. Krafla is a geothermal powerhouse where you can go and see hot steam coming from pores in the earth. Dettifoss is one of Icelands most impressive waterfalls, reputed to be Icelands most powerful and has been used as a background in major films such as Ridley Scott's Prometheus. Asbyrgi is another major sight close to Husavik. appropriately called Sleipnir's horse shoe, it is a clear reminder of the powers of mother nature.

Good cottage in the middle of nowhere. Well equipped, with a nice host. Kids liked the surroundings and it was close enough to Husavik.

This was a nice little cottage on a beautiful plot of land. The house is small, but is pretty well outfitted.

The biggest problem for us was the tiny water heater. There was not enough hot water for one person to take a shower, much less the four people we had! It's not a deal-killer, but something to be aware of. Also, while the property required the dishes to be cleaned and put away, apparently dish soap is not included, go figure. We asked for some, but ended up having to go into town to grab some just for the two nights we stayed at the cottage. Not a huge deal, but a little discouraging.

Apart from that, we loved wandering the land, and did so for a few hours. The cottage is only about a 20 minute drive to Husavik, and 30-45 mins to lake Myvatn, so there is plenty to do and see during your visit to Hagi Cottage.

We recommend a visit, just be aware of the couple of inconveniences and you'll be fine!

This place was amazing! Its location was great for exploring the area around Myvatn and even Dettifoss. The owners are extremely friendly. It is well suited for a family. It was close enough to the main house yet it felt private. The views of the surrounding valley are amazing. The house itself is wonderful, the beds and bathroom are wonderful. We didn't use the kitchen to cook in, but it was clean and well situated. Overall, we would recommend this place for anyone who wants to spend time in the north of Iceland!

A large, beautiful, clean and cosy cottage in a quiet and wonderful landscape.
Very friendly and helpful owner. Thank you Bergljót for the lot of useful hints :)
I've enjoyed this place. It's a good starting point to make tours by foot or to drive to various amazing locations like e.g. Mývatn region, Krafla, Dettifoss.
I will come back.
Takk fyrír & bestu kveðjur :)

Thank you Kaus for staying at my house and for your kind words. i´m so glad that you enjoyed your stay and also that you did spend time looking around in the neighbourhood, but not just going to the main turists places. I hope you will have opportunity to look better around here later,

Our family of four very much enjoyed our 3-night stay at Hagi. I wish we could have stayed longer. The cottage has a good, well-equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, and a nice living room. The natural setting in northern Iceland is beautiful.

This is indeed a "lovely house", and a great setting amongst nearby snow-covered hills with rivers close by which make for good evening strolls. Great for bird-watching, and very convenient for Myvatn and the sights around there. The owners were friendly and helpful. I think the co-ordinates showing the location are incorrect - it should be at: 65.857240, -17.384027 so we initially had difficulty to find the house.

Response from Bergljót Hallgrímsdóttir
Thank you for your kind words. I´m so glad that you enjoyed your stay - and thanks for sharing the location, I had´nt noticed that it was incorrect. Best greetings.

Nice little cabin in a beautiful setting. The cabin was perfect for a family of four. It was about 30 minutes from Myvatn, and maybe 15 from Husavik. Kitchen was perfectly adequate. Bathroom was fine with a good shower. Beautiful view out a big picture window down the valley. Would stay there again!
