Description

Berghylur cottage at Brennistaðir farm is about 35 sq.meters in size and is locate next to a river with a small waterfall that creates a very relaxing environment. In front of the house there is a staircase that leads up to the house and at the top, in front of the house, there is a good patio. Inside there is a open area that contains the living room and kitchen, the bathroom is small with a shower and then there is a good room with a bed.

Note that this is a house built around 1970´s so the house has a charm from that time.

The house has 2 bedrooms. In one room are 2 single beds and the other room has both a double bed and a single bed so the house can sleep up to 5 people.

There are a total of 3 cottages at the Brennistaðir farm and each one of them is around 35 sq.meters and sleeps 4 people each.

Brennistaðir has been in tourism since 1970 and is one of oldest tourist farms in the west part of Iceland. The structure was in the hands of former farmers Árni Theódórsson and Vigdís Sigvaldadóttir, their daughter and her husband have now taken the tourism under their care. The farm has a diverse stock, sheep, goats, horses, ducks, chickens, cat, dog and various other pets. Great emphasis is placed on a pleasant interface good food and chat to visitors so they feel like being at home. Guests are welcome to see the farm accompanied by family members and or learn about the farming and local area. We always give us time to chat and answer questions as we can.

In our immediate vicinity: Deildartunguhver, Reykholt, Hraunfossar, Húsafell, Surtshellir, Grábrók.

Attractions suitable for day trips: Snæfellsnes, Norðurárdalur, Húsafell and Þingvellir or our famous Golden Circle (Gullfoss, Geysir and Þingvellir).

Very comfortable cottage with everything needed. Thora was kind and we really appreciated her hospitality. The place is quiet and peacefull, a real pleasure to stay there.

The original cottage is old and at this time not for hire, it needs urgently a lot of updates !!! But the owner, Thora is a fantastic and lovely woman, when she saw how bad the cottage was, she offered us without any problems her apartement, which is in her house !!! This is a fantastic new apartement and she offered us to use her jacuzzi, so it was a wonderful and fantastic stay at her lodge !!! Thanks to Thora for solving all the starting problems immediately and unspectacular !! Also the horseriding was an amazing and wonderful experoence for my wife, my daughter and her girl friend !!! All the best to Thora and her family and greatings from Germany............still flashed Tom

the picture of the cottage are real!! it's a real and authentic experience.. with lab.. for my child it's really fine? the cottage are really clean, but the sofa are really old.. The 2 rooms it' ok and the kitchen a little use but it's ok for us, we've got necessary. The place is really beautiful with the river but it was really dommageable that the grass is not cut and the other cottage no rent , because we find it's can be a best lovely place in this conditions.
thanks to our guest we be ok for the instructions.

the situation is ok fir visit the middle of the west (sanelfess, and the iceland and foss near reykhot..)

Lovely acomodation with a lovely dog welcoming us! By coincidence (or not) he started barking and when we went to the door to see what he wanted the north lights were starting :D

i see aurora at this cottage. really very lucky place. fantastic. if have WIFI will be perfect. Anyhow, already the best one in my trip at Iceland.

Outstanding and every penny worth! Situated in the beautiful surroundings of Borgarfjordur county this charming old cottage is full of soul. Lying on the bank of a little creek, beneath a nice little waterfall, the cottage was just ideal for us, me and my wife, our daughter and her two little boys of 2 and 4 year.
Thora, the host and keeper of the farm, showed us warm hospitality and won the hearts of the boys by inviting them on Sunday morning to see the domestic animals and help her feeding them. Goats, horses, sheep and even a little cygnet was waddling in the garden, then going to the henhouse feeding chicken and collecting eggs, the boys just loved it! I recommend this place, staying there in the weekend was a sheer pleasure.

We had a wonderful time in this cute little cottage. It is a dream especially for children. We enjoyed the little river and waterfall right next to it, said hello to the farm dog, the sheep and also some horses and had a quite and peaceful weekend. I recommend to bringt food and charcoal for the barbecue since cooking possibilities are rather limited (there is no oven and only 2 hot plates). Great value for money if you are not searching for a luxury accommodation.

The cottage was quite nice but old and a bit dirty. The shower was not working so I would not recommend it to people who need their morning shower. The owner was friendly, she invited us to use her showers and hot tub instead of the broken shower. For less shower-needing people than me I would say it was a good value for the money.

Beautiful with small waterfall and river. Kitchen could have been better equipped. 2 burners on hot plate and no oven. I would rent again..for the charm.

We had a very pleasant stay in this cottage last week. It is well equipped and comfortable and in a very quiet area with with fine views to the west. The small river running past the property is nice to watch and the 4 ponies in the field on the opposite side were nice to see.

Beautiful and peaceful surroundings. Cozy interior, if a bit old, but it only added to the experience. Þora was an extremely helpful and friendly host. I wish I could have spent more time there!

The cabin was very comfortable and in a very peaceful setting next to a river. We were late for check in and Thora help us without any inconvenience. Great with directions to the place and communication.
I highly recommend this cabin.

The house is very difficult to find the owner was not clear with explanations nor facilitated our arrival, the sheets were dirty and yellow, the kitchen table and kitchen utensils were dirty, certainly would not return to this house. The best thing about the house was a music cd that was also scratched

we stayed in this fantastic little house at the end of august 2016 and had the best time .The location was easy to find and upon arrival we met the owner who was very friendly and courtious.The house was very clean and the beds were perfect for a great nights sleep .We stayed for a week and we only noticed five cars drive along the road so you could say it was a little secluded but thats exactly what we wanted.The shower was loverly and you can look out of the window when showering to see the waterfall at the rear of the house .The farm dogs came to visit a couple of times and they played with my daughter who fell in love with them.Even though this isnt the most modern of properties it felt like home and we looked forward to getting back to it after our days adventures in iceland.Thank you so much and we cant wait for our next visit .

We stayed two nights in the cottages. The owners are very nice and flexible. The cottage is small but well equiped. It is rather easy to find it even though it is somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

A clean and pretty little house for 4-5 people, two bed rooms and one living room. the bathroom and kitchen are well equipped. the cottage is at the end of a path surrounded by nature and sheep. you can see the waterfall out of the window leading to a little river that passes by. i would definetly recommend to stay here!

The cottage was clean and comfortable. It was windy on the night we were there and it shook when the wind blew. The linoleum would balloon up as the wind blew under the house making the floor very cold. There is a stove top but no oven. I think it might be a bit cold in the fall or winter months but would probably be fine in the summer. We were only there for one night but found it satisfactory.

Beautiful place: in the middle of nowhere but still close to many interesting places, silence, murmur, splendid little waterfall just next to the cottage, horses and sheep. Clean and warm. We were really enthusiastic about everything!

The three things that make this property a great choice for exploring West Iceland are: Location, location and locations. Situated nicely secluded with your own private waterfall in your garden.

Would get five stars if maintenance of the cabin was kept up. It could use some paint and fix-ups here and there.

The owner was very friendly and helpful. We had a great week there and would not hesitate to return there.

The cottage is located at a very nice spot with sheep and little lambs running everywhere. Very nice! The road along the hut is almost not frequented such that it is still very quiet.
However, the cottage is in a bad condition, and I would not offer it in this way for guests! That leaves us to give only a two star review! The house was not very clean, especially the kitchen tools, e.g. the pan is unusable and all the pots are in danger to lose their handle! In the bathroom you can see where the wet grew into walls etc. Please, give the hut a complete renovation to make it lovely place which it must have been once!

The cottage is located in the middle of nature. It?s near a little waterfall and a river. The point of view is beautiful. The accommodation hasn?t been built recently but this is a very good housing (entirely correct). We just think that it is unfortunate that the owner didn?t check the plumbing before our arrival (we were the first occupants for the season). However, owners were reactive and they kindly proposed we use their sanitary and their hot tub.
