Description

Cozy cottage with a wonderful mountain view and close to the magnificent lava fields of volcano Mt. Hekla (in 20 km distance). Approx. 2,5 hour drive from Keflavik airport, 1,5 hour drive from the capital Reykjavik, 40 minutes drive from the town Selfoss, and 15 minutes drive from the town Hella. The size of the cottage Bjork is 41 m2 and is suitable for 4-5 persons. It has two bedrooms, one with a queen size bed and one with 1,5 size bed and a single bed (bunk bed), a kitchen, living room, and a bathroom with a shower. Smoking is not allowed inside the cottage. There is a new cozy hot tub for 6 persons (from mai 2021), and a large terrace with benches, tables, and BBQ grill.
The cottage is located on the boundaries where the Icelandic highland begins. The last 8-10 km of the road leading to the cottage is gravel and the road is not cleared in winter. 4x4 wheel drive good car or a jeep is recommended in winter and spring. The last 3-4 km of the road can have uneven surface, some holes, especially if there has been heavy rain or snow melting the days before.

Amazing cottage.
verry beautifull and clean.
Jacuzzy felt verry new and was supper clean and private.
Kitchen was fully equipped and easy to use.
We wished we could have stayed there for a few more weeks!

What a great place to be !
Everything in and around the house was great!
There is only one thing, when you are a tall guy with a muscular body, or Just a bit bigger person, it is almost impossible to get under the shower. It is a small 80x80 cm showercabin. I'm nearly 2 meters tall and I really had to squeeze myself through the small opening. But beside that..........GREAT!!!@

Very nice cottage. Great view. Quiet place. We had everything we needed. If we come back to Iceland we will definitely come back to this cottage. Thank you for allowing us to stay.
Keep in mind this cottage must be reached by a F-road but no problem for us and out 4x4 car.

The cottage is really very idyllic in terms of landscape. The equipment especially in the kitchen area is extremely good. The approach at the end on a F road was difficult for our car that had no 4 wheel drive.

Definite 5* rating from us. Great communication from the owners from the start and directions were very clear that it was very easy to find when we arrived in the dark. Arriving late, it would have been nice had the beds been made, but that was a minor point. The cottage was so cozy, and whilst relatively small, it was perfect for us traveling as a family of 3. The kitchen was very well equipped and really couldn't fault the cabin at all. Hot tub was well positioned with great views all around. The cabin is quite remote at about 20 minutes drive from the main road (4x4) recommended, but that suited us perfectly. We stayed 4 nights and were sorry to leave when we were relocating for the remainder of our holiday. Fabulous place to stay, we totally loved it!

Beautiful and cozy little cottage! There was very poor road conditions and we we had to walk the last couple hundred meters. This is not a road that is cleared in the winter and without previous snow driving experience you may not want to brave the last few kilometers given that there is not much out there. Any recent snowfall requires at minimum 4x4 and it still may be impassable. If reachable it is a really nice place though. Saw the northern lights from the porch and enjoyed the quiet beauty!

Thank you for the review. This winter has been extremely snowy in Iceland. Like says in the information about the cottage in the winter a jeep is recommended since the area is on the edge og the highlands. Best regards Johanna and Smari

It was a fantastic stay. The cottage location is beautiful and very good location to see the northern lights as well from the jacuzzi while drinking a glas of wine :).

Will comeback when I visit south iceland again!

It was wonderful here. We felt very comfortable.
We really liked the cottage.
We had nice weather and we were able to enjoy the hot tub once.
The kitchen was very well equipped.
It was very difficult for us to leave the cottage.
If we are allowed we will definitely come back and stay longer.

We liked the cottage, the location and the hot tube so much. So it was hard to leave it today. The place is equipped with all you need for your stay in this area. The sleeping rooms are small, but the living room/kitchen has all the space you need for a family of four. Its easy to reach from the ring road, in winter time you properly need a 4x4. The garden is very large, the area quite and safe.

Wundervolles Häuschen in ruhiger Lage etwas abseits der gängigen Ringstraße. Die gute Ausstattung und die Bitte der Gastfamilie, immer ein paar Vorräte für die nächsten Gäste dazulassen, fanden wir sehr hilfreich, nachdem wir erst am Pfingstsamstag Abend ankamen und dann an zwei Tagen die Geschäfte geschlossen hatten. Das Cottage ist sehr gemütlich und mit viel Liebe fürs Detail eingerichtet und man merkt gleich, dass die Besitzer es auch selbst oft nutzen.

The cottage was amazing. The owners were very kind and heated for us so we could get cozy when we arrived. Very well furnished and the hot tub is auch a treat after days of exploring. The area is very quiet. The road to arrive to the cottage was a bit scary the first time but you get used to it.

The Bjork cottage is a wonderful place. It is a cozy and comfortable home, very well equipped with everything you need in a spectacular location. The hot tub was most welcome after long days exploring and the views are simply amazing.

Absolutely loved this place! The cottage is beautiful and in a spectacular setting in the Hekla region. We climbed the volcano Hekla 1 day. We drove the Geysir geysers and Gulfoss waterfall on another day. Great location from which to see southern Iceland.

The cottage was well-appointed with kichen accessories and was very comfortable. The bread ingredients made for a tasty, healthy bread one morning - a nice touch!

Highly recommend this cottage!

What a wonderful place to stay! The cottage was well kept and appointed and perfect for our family of 4. The bread fixings and the breadmaker were so thoughtful and a great way to start our morning. We used this location as a jumping off point for our touring and we always looked forward to coming "home" to this wonderful spot. We only wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy the beautiful scenery surrounding Bjork. With the long days we got to enjoy the hot tub during a beautiful sunset. Perhaps next time we will come during winter to see the Northern Lights!

We LOVED our stay at the cottage. It was obvious the owners put a lot of thought into the cottage, as it had everything we needed. The hot tub was lovely at the end of the day watching the sunset, the kitchen had absolutely everything you could need. It was so wonderful to make a loaf of bread in the breadmaker and so thoughtful of our host to leave us a a loaf ready to go. The area around the cottage was very pretty considering the rough lava road to access the cottage. There were so many birds around and we really felt like we found a our own private getaway.
Johanna was so helpful with recommendations and directions we felt like a family friend.
