Description

Experience Iceland's spectacular nature on the Snæfellsnes peninsula. Often referred to as the centre of the Earth, this area boasts breathtaking geological formations and coastal lines, the setting is chosen in Jules Verne's "Journey to the centre of the Earth.
Arguably one of the best-situated Summer houses on the South coast of the Snæfellsnes peninsula is for rent in Hellnar (2 hours driving from Reykjavik).
This property has an undisturbed unique 360-degree view of the sea and the Snæfellsjökull glacier and the terrain goes all the way down to the coastline. No building in front or behind, this large piece of land.
The Summer house has a Left-wing (approx. 65 sqm) and a Right-wing (approx. 65 sqm) that can be combined into one large space.
Both wings have a separate front door, entry and dining/living room.

Left wing:
Sleeping room nr.1: master bedroom, 150 cm queen-size (2 persons)
Sleeping room nr.2: Double bed of 140 cm (2 persons-brand new luxury beds) and a larger adult bed of 100 cm (1 person).

All the beds are whole (not single beds together).

Also, each wing has its own well-equipped kitchen (oven/stove, microwave, fridge/freezer) and bathroom (with shower).
There is free wifi internet access (via high-speed fibre connection to the Summerhouse). The living rooms have a spectacular direct view of the sea.
Each wing has a high chair for babies.
There is a large joint terrace with a sea view, gas grill and table/chairs.

In addition, the Left-wing has a dishwasher in the kitchen and a washing machine in the bathroom.

Please look up for the name "Skjaldartrod - Left Wing and Right Wing" if you want to book the whole house.

Right wing:
Sleeping room nr.3: master bedroom, 150 cm queen-size (2 persons)
Sleeping room nr.4: Double bed of 140 cm (2 persons-brand new luxury beds) and a larger adult bed of 120 cm (1-2 person).

There is a lovely small café, Fjoruhusid, by the coastline just down the hill and a Restaurant at Fosshotel Hellnar, if you don't feel like spending time cooking.
On the land is the famous "Maríulind" source which is believed to give a healing effect to those who drink the water. There is a beautiful trekking path through the lava between Hellnar and Arnarstapi (3 km walking), which provides ample opportunity for bird and whale watching.
Nearby are several hiking paths, beaches, horse riding, swimming pool, bird and seal watching, cafes and restaurants, golf and organized sightseeing and snowmobile on Snæfellsjökull and caving tours. You can find more inspiration on the www.guidetoiceland.is website searching for postings like "The Magical Snæfellsnes Peninsula in West-Iceland".

--- Minimum 2 nights booking is available ----
Driving directions to the Summer house: In Hellnar, you will have to follow the road towards the FossHotel Hellnar. When you reach the hotel, instead of turning right into the parking lot, go straight and you have the Summer house in front of you, perched on the Coastline.

Please contact me if you want to book all the summerhouse.
After you make a booking, I will send you all the information needed for your stay.

What to see around Hellnar:

Here are my favourites things to see when we are there:

Lava from Hellnar to Arnarstapi:
There is a beautiful trail that you can walk in the lava between Hellnar to Arnarstapi. It's about 3 km walk along the coastline.
Really worth seeing nature and the birdlife. You can have a break in one of the café?s in Arnarstapi before heading back to Hellnar. The café ?Fjöruhúsið? by the harbour in Hellnar where the walking trail starts is much nicer though with a spectacular view on the porch.

Londrangar:
These are insane rock formations to see. There is also a lighthouse you can walk to.
You can park at Svalþúfa / Þúfubjarg parking lot and follow the walking trail.

Djupalonssandur:
A beautiful black beach made of rounded stones.

Kirkjufell:
One of the most photographed mountains in Iceland. You can walk around the mountain. I have only walked around the waterfall which is beautiful and taken pictures of the mountain.

Malarrif:
A small museum of the national park and toilets.
Nice nature, fun swing on a long string and also black beach made of rounded stones.

Saxhóll crater:
Saxholl is a crater which is easy to climb since they have created a long staircase. There is a great view over the area from the top.

Swimming pool in Ólafsvik and Lýsuhól

The swimming pool in Olafsvik is quite nice with several outside jacuzzis (also for kids) with a splendid view of the mountain. All swimming pools in Iceland are nice so you should definitely try that.

The swimming pool in Lysuhol is a natural water spring without Chlorine.
This swimming pool is never washed so it grows all kinds of water plants. I do not recommend this for people who want everything clean.

Snæfellsjokull:
Drive-up the glacier to walk on the snow and see the beautiful view.
Gowest offers hiking tours on the glacier. It can be dangerous to walk to the top alone. Check out: www.gowest.is

You can also drive on snow scooters or with a big snow truck on the glacier. Check out: www.theglacier.is

Svöðufoss:
Waterfall between Rif and Ólafsvík. You will see a huge sign by the road. There is a big parking lot and you can actually walk by the left side of the waterfall and up to the top.

Fishing in the sea, whale-watching or bird watching around Grundarfjordur.
www.lakitours.com

Horse riding www.storikambur.is

Cave sightseeing.
If you want to explore the cave Vatnshellir, you can book a tour here www.vatnshellir.is
Have a lot of clothes (gloves and hats since it is freezing gold down there!).

Top apartment. It is easy to find and has a fantastic cliff top location with sweeping views across the bay. The equipment is simple and functional. The contact with the landlady very good and friendly. We were very satisfied!

Beautiful location, wonderful views (on one side of the sea, on the other side of the glacier). The cabin is spacious, there are also some games which our kids appreciated. We were lucky that no one was staying in the other wing so we had privacy (there is a shared terrace as mentioned in the description). A 3-minute walk from the cottage, on the coast, there is a very good café.
There is no shop/supermarket in the neighborhood. The kitchen cleaning requires a bit more attention (we had to clean the toaster and coffee maker upon arrival). Otherwise, everything was just perfect, we have enjoyed our stay and we will definitely be happy to come back and recommend it to everyone.

We had a lovely stay at the house. Thank you. It was warm and well equipped. The pictures don't give justice to the view from the window. Next time we would definitely choose the same location.

What a wonderful location! The view is beyond believable and the house is well equipped for all circumstances.
The owner is very responsive and friendly - next to all the necessary information, she also supplied us with loads of useful tips and advice of what to see.
We used this particular location to explore the peninsula which is not short of a condensed version of Iceland. Our days were fully packed and in the evenings we relaxed with an amazing view over the ocean or played games. Everybody was so content that our teenagers did not even start missing Netflix.
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to stay in this great location!
