A beautiful home in a great location, let down slightly by the website description.
The main reason we decided on this property was the hot tub, however, we were informed 2 days before travelling that it was out of order, leaving us no time to rebook elsewhere. The hot tub appeared to have been unusable for some with green algae forming, so we were disappointed not to have been told sooner. There are also no chickens, despite the website claiming otherwise (our daughter was looking forward to meeting them).
That being said, the property is genuinely lovely. The kitchen is very well equipped and stocked with lots of useful ingredients (including great coffee pods) and things like clingfilm and foil that are often lacking in holiday rentals.
The living room has stunning views across Faxaflói Bay to the North and Northwest which I think would be ideal for seeing the northern lights from the comfort of the cosy room. Unfortunately we didn't see any during our visit (a little too early in the year); regardless, we could have sat gazing out over the water all day.
The villa was bright, warm and clean, the three bedrooms comfortable. The large shower was great and most welcome after a long day exploring South West Iceland. There is a small beach, around 5 minutes trek from the front door which is well worth a look. We encountered nobody else on our wee walk, just a herd of inquisitive seals! Our 2 year old enjoyed splashing in the water in her wellies, exploring rock pools and playing with the black sand.
Reykjavik is about 45 minutes away, the Blue Lagoon less than 20 minutes and the Golden Circle can be done in a day with an early start. With Keflavik Int airport only 25 minutes away, the villa is just about in the perfect location.
Highly recommended, just message before booking to check the status of the hot tub if that is important to you.
We had a wonderful holiday, in no small part to having this haven as our base.
