Description

This lovely cottage is located in the middle of a beautiful valley near Ólafsfjörður village. The houses overlooks the valley to the sea and is a bit secluded so you will be able to enjoy the quietness and remoteness like never before.
The hut is also a good place for ski-touring and mountain hiking as there are many trails to hike in the area.

The cottage is built from a drawing from the 1000´s. It´s made of Norwegian pine and has cozy wooden smell and nails are only used on the roof. There is underfloor heating from the hot water spring which also serves for the hotter potter outside of the hut. Please note, that it is typically in Iceland to bath outside. In the hut is no indoor shower but you have a hot pot outside with constant water exchange (38°C). The water is a thousand years old directly from the inner of the earth!

The house can accommodate 4 persons in a one double bed and 2 single beds.

We offer horse riding tours for a small fee. We can offer a slower and a easy tour for beginners (maximum 4 people) or a bit faster tour for experienced riders.
The riding is possible from mid-May till mid-October.

The landlord gave us a friendly welcome. However, we were disappointed with the cabin. Nice on the outside but not very comfortable inside.

First of all, the slits of the front door should definitely be sealed with a wooden, plastic or metal strip. This keeps the crowds of flies outside and keeps the draft air out by the beds espacially on windy and cold days. I tried this successfully with a textile adhesive tape. Of course, the entrance door should be prepared in such a way that it is to open and close easily. A hut with a door that jams so badly should never be rented out to tourists! It was also disappointing that the door was not repaired during our stay. A carpenter could have fixed these problems in an hour.
The ancient door lock is certainly interesting, but it is cumbersome and impractical, especially for elderly. It takes a lot of strength and skill to open the door.

Unfortunately, from time to time it smells very unpleasant in the toilet. Presumably exhaust gases from the waste water collection tank, which are pushed through the siphon in the sink by overpressure.

Unfortunately there is no shower either. The small hotpot was dangerously slippery and gross because of the algae growth and no substitute at all.

The stairs to the upper sleeping places should definitely have a railing, which would not be a structural problem and is absolutely necessary from a safety point of view. So we didn't use it for safety reasons.

In addition, the hut should be equipped at least with a wardrobe for clothes and personell belongings for 2 people). There where only some hooks for hanging the wardrobe. A decent sized sink (not just a hand basin) is minimum standard. An electric kettle (saves electricity, works faster), a microwave (also saves electricity and is essential for many quick frozen dishes), a coffee machine/maker, suitable pots (there were only two aluminum pots, the bottoms of which were not flat, so the food often burned). A room lighting or lighting above the dining table. There was only one floor lamp next to the sofa

To be honest we were disappointed how a cabin can be rent in this condition (draughty and stuck front door with flies constantly coming in) with inadequate facilities at all. The underfloor heating, a slummy, dirty hot pot and a fly killer lamp will not help under this circumstances.
In summery, we cannot recommend the hut.

We stayed at the Cottage for 3 nights and had an amazing time. The Cottage is simple but very charmful, heated by geothermic water, which also fills a basic hot tub outside the cottage. Excelent to take a bath and behold the northern lights if the conditions are right.
The owner Mikael and Camino, who helps running the place, are very friendly and helpful, too. Hopefully, we come back one day!

it's one of the nicest accommodations we've stayed in in recent years. You can see how much love this house was built with. The hosts are so kind and helpful. We felt comfortable from the first second and would have liked to stayed longer. We can recommend the house to everyone and will definitely come back. Thank you for everything

Wow. Log house Built by the owner modelled in a Viking house, with a hand made replica of a medieval lock (but geothermal underfloor heating!). And a tub outside fed by a pipe from a warm spring. We loved the remoteness and isolation

The cabin is really cosy and atmospheric- a proper log cabin! Not just a prefabricated one like most in Iceland. It?s a good location for hiking and exploring the Troll peninsula.
The cabin interior is spotless and done to a good standard, it?s a nice place to hang out and play board games when the weather is bad.
We had a jolly time and the cabin exceeded our expectations.

The valley is really very beautiful, we spent a quiet and relaxing week there with our kids. The Cottage is very cosy, all made of wood, and we loved the hot tub right behind it with a marvellous view. Many thanks to our hosts who were so friendly and welcoming. And the horse back riding was the absolute highlight for our four year old daughter. We can highly recommend the place (except maybe for smaller kids because the attic doesn't have a fence).
