Description

Arguably some of the best-situated cottages on Snæfellness peninsula are for rent in Hellnar (2 hours driving from Reykjavik).
You can rent the cottage Þórabúð (49 m2). There is a unique 360-degree view on the sea and the glacier and the terrain goes all the way down to the coastline.
The cottage holds three bedrooms (three double beds and one single bunker above), a kitchen, a living room, a bathroom and a big outside terrace with furniture and barbecue (gas). There is a high chair for babies and a small playground outside.
NEW high-speed INTERNET!!!

--- Minimum 2 nights booking is available ----

Arabúð is located next to two other separate cottages (approx 200-300 m between). They are all placed remotely on the private property in Hellnar and have a view of the ocean and to the beautiful and mysterious glacier, Snæfellsjökull.
It is really a peaceful and not windy place where the sunset is long and beautiful.
Next to the cottages is the famous "Maríulind" source which is believed to give a healing effect to those who drink the water. There is a beautiful trekking path through the lava between Hellnar and Arnarstapi (3 km walking), which provides ample opportunity for bird and whale watching.
Nearby are several hiking paths, beaches, horse riding, a swimming pool, bird and seal watching, Cafes and Restaurants, golf and organized sightseeing and snowmobile on Snæfellsjökull and caving tours.
There is 1 cafe called Fjoruhusid and a Restaurant at Fosshotel Hellnar so you don't have to spend your time cooking.

Driving directions to the cottage:
In Hellnar, you will have to follow the road towards the harbour to reach the cottage. This is marked as the access road on the Hellnar map that we provide.

GPS coordinates
If you have a GPS unit, you can use the following coordinates:

Arabúð: 64.75613, -23.6517

Experience Iceland's spectacular nature at Snæfellness peninsula.
Often referred to as the center of the Earth, this area boasts breath
taking geological formations and coastal lines, the setting chosen in
Jules Vernes "Journey to the center of the Earth?.

After you make a booking, I will send you all the information's needed for your stay.

What to see around Hellnar:

Here are my favourites things to see when we are there:

Lava from Hellnar to Arnarstapi:
There is a beautiful trail that you can walk in the lava between Hellnar to Arnarstapi. It's about 3 km walk along the coastline.
Really worth seeing nature and the birdlife. You can have a break in one of the café?s in Arnarstapi before heading back to Hellnar. The café ?Fjöruhúsið? by the harbour in Hellnar where the walking trail starts is much nicer though with a spectacular view on the porch.

Londrangar:
These are insane rock formations to see. There is also a lighthouse you can walk to.
You can park at Svalþúfa / Þúfubjarg parking lot and follow the walking trail.

Djupalonssandur:
A beautiful black beach made of rounded stones.

Kirkjufell:
One of the most photographed mountains in Iceland. You can walk around the mountain. I have only walked around the waterfall which is beautiful and taken pictures of the mountain.

Malarrif:
A small museum of the national park and toilets.
Nice nature, fun swing on a long string and also black beach made of rounded stones.

Saxhóll crater:
Saxholl is a crater which is easy to climb since they have created a long staircase. There is a great view over the area from the top.

Swimming pool in Ólafsvik and Lýsuhól

The swimming pool in Olafsvik is quite nice with several outside jacuzzis (also for kids) with a splendid view of the mountain. All swimming pools in Iceland are nice so you should definitely try that.

The swimming pool in Lysuhol is a natural water spring without Chlorine.
This swimming pool is never washed so it grows all kinds of water plants. I do not recommend this for people who want everything clean.

Snæfellsjokull:
Drive-up the glacier to walk on the snow and see the beautiful view.
Gowest offers hiking tours on the glacier. It can be dangerous to walk to the top alone. Check out: www.gowest.is

You can also drive on snow scooters or with a big snow truck on the glacier. Check out: www.theglacier.is

Svöðufoss:
Waterfall between Rif and Ólafsvík. You will see a huge sign by the road. There is a big parking lot and you can actually walk by the left side of the waterfall and up to the top.

Fishing in the sea, whale-watching or bird watching around Grundarfjordur.
www.lakitours.com

Horse riding www.storikambur.is

Cave sightseeing.
If you want to explore the cave Vatnshellir, you can book a tour here www.vatnshellir.is
Have a lot of clothes (gloves and hats since it is freezing gold down there!).

What a beautiful place! My wife, adult daughter and I loved staying in this cottage near Hellna. Located in a meadow close to the edge of a lava flow, it has a lovely view of the ocean a few hundred meters away. It was comfortable, clean, well equipped, and had an open Scandinavian feel that we really liked. Checking in and out was very easy, and communication with our host was excellent. We had a few glitches with the Wifi, but our host was very quick to help us get it straightened out, even though she was in Denmark. If we visit the area again, this cottage will be the first one we try to book.
Our host provided an extensive list of places to see and things to do in the Snæfellsnes area. Be sure not to miss the little café in Hellnar or the walk to Arnarstapi. And if you pass through Grundarfjörður on the north coast of the peninsula, stop at the newly (as of July 2022) opened Valeria Kaffi. Best coffee I?ve had for years, and I?m a bit of a coffee snob.

Arabud is nice cosy cottage in a beautiful powerful place. For many years I have asked my self "how can I rent this cottage?" and now I found it on bungalo.com. We have had a great time. The cottage has everything you need. I will come back!

We enjoyed our stay very much in this cosy cottage with a beautiful view where we felt far away from the busy tourist hot spots. The host also gave us valuable tips for traveling to Iceland during the pandemic. We will come back, soon.

We spent three nights in the cottage. It is in a beautiful setting next to a wonderful lava field and in a secluded position along with the three other cottages. It's a great place to stay with fantastic walks.

Fabulous cottage, away from it all, with distant views of Hellnar church and the mountains up behind. We loved our stay here.

Very nice environement and comfortable beds. But for the price paid it was a disappointment that there was no functioning TV, The kitchen very small and some equipment not well functioning. But we enjoyed our stay nonetheless but find the price too high for what was provided.

A very nice cottage, spacious and clean has all the necessary amenities. Fantastic location and a lovely view. Good beds with comfortable new mattresses.
There was no internet when we arrived but it got connected later in the evening. Garbage bin for the houses needed emptying.
Overall a very nice experience and everything as described on the booking page.
